Following its change of name in 2008, Discover West Norfolk has teamed up with the College of West Anglia to produce a brand new logo for 2009.

DWN contacted Chris Skinner, tutor on the Graphic Design course at the College, who agreed to ask his first year students to spend some time over the summer designing a logo. Rosie Kitchen and Phil Davies drew up a brief for the students, which they presented to the class in June.

In September, Rosie and Phil were invited back to the College to view the finished logos. Thirteen potential versions were on display, and Phil and Rosie were extremely impressed by the high standard of the designs the students had produced during their summer break. ‘We will have a difficult time choosing a winner as there are so many excellent designs – the students have done a terrific job’, said Phil.

Eventually, after further discussions with the chairman and the students, a shortlist of four designs was chosen and circulated for consultation round the membership.

The final winner was overwhelmingly supported by the membership, and in November Phil and Rosie returned to the College to present cheques to the designer of the winning logo, Sinead Bird, and the composer of the wording used, Luis Ribiero.  If any member is interested in learning more about these students’ work, please contact Chris Skinner at the College of West Anglia on 01553 761144, email cskinner@col-westanglia.ac.uk.

The new logo will soon be appearing on the DWN website and stationery. Display material will be produced for use at the Trade Exhibition in March 2009, and a press launch of the new logo is planned to take place at the College in the New Year.

DWN would like to take this opportunity to thank Chris Skinner and all his students for their hard work, and wish the students all the best in the future.

If any members wish to see more of the designs the students submitted, please contact Rosie Kitchen on 01553 675570, email rosie.kitchen@hotmail.co.uk.
